| Independence Day 2004 - Peachtree City, GA 07.04.2004
Just about every year as a kid, my family spent the 4th of July at Jekyll Island, GA. Mostly it was because the fireworks there were awesome, and partially because it just happened to work out as a good time to be at the beach. However, in my mind, I don't recall our town (Griffin, GA at the time) ever really having much of a fireworks display. When we moved to Peachtree City, however, we started watching the fireworks at the lake. I've done that most years since 1990. In recent years, some high school friends (some guys in the band included) have squatted on the dock from just before noon until the fireworks, just to make sure we had a good spot to watch. This year was no exception. My family - minus a few - was camped out there in the golf cart, and the friends were on the dock. Hilary and I were able to get there a few hours before the fireworks to hang out with everyone. When the sun went down, the fireworks began (sometime after 9:00pm). It was a great display, and we all had fun commenting on the different fireworks they used, and trying to figure out what everything looked like ("Saturn!" "A heart!" "A star!" "A smiley face!" "An explosion!"). In the last 5 or 6 years, my family has hung out with some family friends in the early afternoon for grilling out and swimming in their pool (no pics of that this year, sorry). Hilary and I have also been hanging out with her family and some of their friends in the later part of the day each year. This year we played a little game of Guesstures! Most of these pics are images of the actual fireworks, with just a couple of pics of friends/family. |
